Bushra A. Malik is a trusted immigration advisor with over 20 years of experience helping clients navigate the complexities of US immigration law. She partners with global companies to develop smart, scalable strategies for managing international talent, and supports individuals across a wide range of industries. Known for her deep knowledge of government processes and her creative, solution-driven approach, she delivers practical guidance on everything from employment-based visas and cross-border mobility to family reunification. Overview

Ms. Malik’s practice spans a broad spectrum of immigration matters, including employment-based permanent residence petitions (such as EB-1 for Extraordinary Ability, Outstanding Researchers, and Multinational Managers), PERM labor certifications, and family-based petitions. She regularly handles nonimmigrant visa categories including H-1B, L-1, O-1, J-1, and TN (NAFTA Professionals), as well as compliance matters such as I-9 audits and H-1B public access file reviews; complex naturalization cases; U.S. passport issues; and currency seizure cases.

With a truly global scope, Ms. Malik has secured work and residence permits for clients in countries across Asia, Europe, and North America—including China, India, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, and beyond. She frequently represents clients before US Ports of Entry, USCIS District Offices, US Embassies and Consulates abroad, and foreign consular posts.

A recognized thought leader in the field, Ms. Malik is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), where she currently serves on the Mid-Winter Conference Committee. Her previous leadership roles include Chair of the AILA Michigan Chapter, Chair of the Global Migration Section, and membership on the AILA Board of Governors and the National Department of State Liaison Committee. She is also a frequent speaker at AILA’s national and international conferences.

Prior to joining Butzel, Ms. Malik served as a Vice Consul for the US Department of State in Seoul, South Korea. She also worked at the Executive Office for Immigration Review (Chicago Immigration Court) and completed externships with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (New Delhi, India) and the legacy Immigration and Naturalization Service, Office of General Counsel (Washington, D.C.).

Ms. Malik is a Shareholder practicing in Butzel's Troy office. She earned her juris doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with High Honors from Michigan State University’s James Madison College. She also majored in Japanese and earned a Certificate in Asian Studies. She is fluent in Hindi, Japanese, and Urdu.
