Areas of Practice

Maryam brings a wealth of law-firm and C-suite experience to her practice, specializing in complex healthcare and life sciences transactions. Her practice includes mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and corporate reorganizations. She routinely advises clients on a range of healthcare and nonprofit regulatory matters, including fraud, waste and abuse, nonprofit law, tax exemption, corporate governance, and compliance issues.

Maryam has held key roles, including Chief Legal Officer at a proton therapy development company and General Counsel and ad hoc Chief Compliance Officer for a genetic testing joint venture. In these positions, she built the legal, compliance, privacy and internal audit departments from the ground up.

Known for her innovative approach to structuring transactions and delivering comprehensive, practical solutions, Maryam is adept at making mission critical legal and business decisions for a variety of regulatory and compliance matters. For example, Maryam has guided clients through major data security breaches, advised on a range of healthcare and privacy laws, including EKRA, the Stark law, anti-kickback statutes, state and federal privacy laws, and billing compliance, and executed strategic transactions between hospitals, health systems, academic medical centers, life sciences companies, medical device companies, healthcare technology companies and private equity.
