Elsa Manzanares Publishes International Trade Law Update in the Texas Bar Journal

Dallas Partner Elsa Manzanares contributed to the January issue of the Texas Bar Journal with an overview of international trade law developments from 2020 and what the environment may look like in 2021.

She covered aspects of the supply chain affected by COVID-19, U.S. enforcement of sanctions and embargoes, foreign investments, and human rights abuses arising from forced labor practices.

"Even without the impact of COVID-19 on global supply chains, 2020 was a significant year for international trade," Elsa writes. "From a legal and compliance perspective, the cost of doing business internationally has increased due to an unprecedented risk environment, especially for global companies doing business in China."

Elsa advises on U.S. and international regulations relating to imports and exports, including goods, services, software and technology. She regularly advises clients on the Export Administration regulations, the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, U.S. Customs laws, anti-corruption compliance, and foreign investment reviews conducted by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Additionally, she was appointed by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to serve as a panelist eligible to review antidumping and countervailing duty disputes under Chapter 19 of NAFTA.
