Lomuscio, Goldstein Examine Stablecoin Regulatory Framework in The New York Law Journal
Stinson LLP Partner Richard Lomusico and Associate Abby Goldstein authored an article for The New York Law Journal, "The GENIUS Act: A Crypto Win for Banks?" The article examines the passage of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, which introduced a defined framework for the issuance of stablecoins.
Stablecoins are digital assets tied to a fixed monetary value or currency. According to the authors, the GENIUS Act may give traditional banks a leg up over cryptocurrency companies because of their existing compliance framework.
"Given that the GENIUS Act’s structure incorporates activities already routinely engaged in by traditional banks, the industry is interestingly poised to benefit the most from the new cryptocurrency landscape," Lomuscio and Goldstein write.
