Derrick counsels clients in multiple aspects of real estate and finance law in connection with community development projects involving federal and state incentives.
Overview
Derrick concentrates his practice on the areas of community development finance, tax credits and real estate law. He represents financial institutions, institutional investors and community development entities (CDEs) in the use of federal and state incentives, including historic tax credits (HTC), new markets tax credits (NMTC), renewable energy investment tax credits (ITC) and various state-specific tax incentive programs. Derrick utilizes his knowledge, skills and background to assist and advise clients throughout the deal process by spotting and addressing issues, negotiating with transaction parties to maximize the client's position and managing the day-to-day aspects of the transaction.
Experience
Represented HTC investors in connection with transactions utilizing $18 million of HTCs for the historic renovation of buildings into hotels, apartments and office projects located in Washington, Massachusetts and Missouri.
Represented ITC investors in renewable energy (solar) transactions involving $19 million of ITCs for the development of 13 project sites in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Represented NMTC investors and CDEs in transactions involving the development and renovation of health care facilities located in Nevada and Texas that qualified for $29 million of federal and state NMTCs.
