Overview
Jacob has experience litigating claims in both federal and state courtrooms in a variety of subject matter areas, including intellectual property and complex breach of contract claims, high-profile defamation actions, shareholder business valuation disputes, TCPA class actions, and others. Jacob’s litigation background began with his role as a judicial law clerk at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, where he gained invaluable insight into the operations of the federal judicial system and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. He also gained additional experience through his tenure at the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, where he served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Special Litigation Division. Jacob hones his litigation skills from working with interesting cases and clients.
Experience
Assisted in the successful defense of a reigning chess grandmaster in a high-profile antitrust and defamation lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages.
Effectively opposed a motion for reconsideration seeking to revitalize a claim for millions of dollars in consequential damages in complex breach of SaaS contract case.
Successfully moved to obtain crucial discovery, furthering collection efforts on a nearly $2 million judgment achieved in favor of clients.
Obtained dismissal of TCPA class action after moving to compel arbitration of lead plaintiff’s claims.
Obtained dismissal of client from a California lawsuit brought by a general contractor seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars owed to subcontractors.
Successfully moved for an award of tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees and additional relief on motion for contempt and sanctions relating to a variety of post-judgment discovery violations.
Successfully prepared temporary restraining order and petition on behalf of private equity client in an effort to prevent former vice president from disclosing critical trade secrets to competitor.
Successfully moved for civil contempt against member of a limited liability company who communicated with company’s customers in violation of previously-entered injunctions. The court awarded attorneys’ fees and costs, as well as other essential relief.
