COVID-19 and Immigration Impact: The Latest Presidential Proclamation, Visa Processing, and Extensions
Sachiyo Peterson, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office, presented a webinar on COVID-19 related immigration issues to members of the Japan America Society of Ohio (JASCO) on July 21, 2020.
The purpose of this webinar was to provide Japanese companies with information regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the current immigration landscape. Topics covered included details of the recent Presidential Proclamation suspending the entry of certain L-1, H-1B, H-2B, and J-1 visa holders, including who is covered, how it impacts them, how it impacts their ability to travel, and who is exempted from the Proclamation; information regarding the limited visa processing options during continued Embassy/Consulate closures; and options to extend visa status from within the United States when travel is not possible.
