Overview

Matt is an associate in the Vorys Cleveland office and a member of the litigation group.  His practice focuses on commercial, oil and gas, energy, workers’ compensation, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights disputes.  He has also represented fiduciaries, including chapter 7 trustees and receivers, in workout, restructuring, and bankruptcy matters.  In addition, Matt has experience working on appeals and original actions throughout Ohio, including before the Ohio Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Sixth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel and various Ohio District Courts of Appeals.

Notable experiences include:

  • Obtaining summary judgment in an oil and gas dispute regarding a unique lease provision, which was affirmed on appeal
  • Obtaining dismissal of an appeal in a complex foreclosure action
  • Serving as counsel to a chapter 7 trustee in a large bankruptcy matter
  • Obtaining judgment judicially dissolving an Ohio corporation
  • Participating in a three and one-half day arbitration that resulted in a favorable outcome for a client

Matt received his J.D. summa cum laude from the Cleveland State University College of Law, where he served as the submissions editor for the Cleveland State Law Review.  He received his B.A. summa cum laude from West Virginia University, where he received the John Maxwell Prize in History.  Matt is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Matt currently serves on the Board of Managers for GiGi’s Playhouse Cleveland in Lakewood, Ohio.
