Harty Quoted in BNA Digital Discovery and e-Evidence Story on International Electronic Discovery
Susan Harty, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office, was quoted in an April 15, 2013 BNA Digital Discovery and e-Evidence story titled “Preserve and Comply Early and Often: ABA Panel Discusses International eDiscovery.” The story outlined the topics covered at a panel discussion about the impact of international privacy on discovery that Harty participated in at the American Bar Association's 61st Antitrust Spring Meeting.
According to the story, the panel stressed that companies and their counsel can best prepare by documenting the steps the company has taken to enforce rules and policies aimed to preserve material and respect privacy regulations. The story states:
“‘This is one of those issues that is easier for the companies that regularly get litigation of a certain type,’ Harty said. ‘They can do the necessary planning and justify to IT why, from a budget perspective, it makes sense to put the resources in.’
For companies with a global footprint whose litigation profile is fairly low or erratic, the ability to justify the type of planning necessary to be prepared for litigation is more difficult, Harty explained."
