Inaugural Energy Summit Highlighted in Recent News Stories
The inaugural Vorys and Vorys Advisors Energy Summit was highlighted in two news stories. Gongwer News specifically highlighted the opening remarks from the event in a story titled “Top Lawmakers Talk Energy Future, Budget Reaction.”
The story states:
“Senate President Larry Obhof and Rep. Ryan Smith expanded Tuesday on the GOP-led legislature's intent to revise the renewable energy standards and their reluctance to hike the oil and gas severance tax.
Speaking at an opening session of a daylong Columbus event focused on energy issues and organized by Vorys, the lawmakers reiterated that both chambers will prioritize mapping out a longterm energy strategy in the coming months of the 132nd General Assembly.
‘I think energy is going to be one of the key issues the legislature is going to be working on over the next two years and - I'd say probably even sooner than that - over the next sixth months,’ Sen. Obhof (R-Medina) said.

“Major consumer voices including the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel and the Ohio Manufacturers' Association (OMA) told a Capitol Square conference Tuesday that markets rather than government intervention are the best guarantee of a competitive energy product, but Chairman Asim Haque of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) appeared to offer a somewhat different vision of Ohio’s energy future as one embracing ‘disruptive regulation.’
Haque joined Consumers’ Counsel Bruce Weston and OMA policy advisor Ryan Augsburger at “The Future of Ohio’s Energy” conference hosted by Vorys Advisors at the Sheraton Capitol Square. Speakers included Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina), former Senate President Tom Niehaus, House Finance Committee Chairman Ryan Smith (R-Gallipolis), PUCO Commissioner Beth Trombold, and JobsOhio’s managing director for shale energy and petrochemicals, Dana Saucier. They addressed a gathering attended by Sens. Sen. Joe Uecker (R-Loveland), Reps. Bob Cupp (R-Lima), Christina Hagan (R-Alliance), Mark Romanchuk (R-Mansfield), and other policymakers and members of the energy industry.”
