Stratton Co-Chairs Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway Advisory Group
Evelyn Lundberg Stratton has been appointed as a co-chair of a group convened by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine to review the existing protocols and safeguards currently in place involving privacy and security issues relating to Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG). Prior to joining Vorys, as of counsel, Stratton served as a judge and justice for 24 years.
OHLEG is the state’s secure Web-based law enforcement platform that includes electronic tools, databases, and other applications that help law enforcement solve and prevent crimes. It is one of the first of its kind in the nation, a basic One-Stop-Shop for law enforcement tools used in their work.
The group, which includes judges, lawyers and law enforcement officials, was formed after a facial recognition tool was added to OHLEG. This feature allows law enforcement officials to compare photographs of suspects or unidentified victims to a database of existing photos that include criminal mug shots, state identification photos, and Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles photos. The Attorney General has requested that the group look beyond just facial recognition software to the broader issues involving OHLEG. He asked the group to develop their recommendations by October 25, 2013.
At Vorys, Stratton counsels clients on variety of practice areas, including health care, litigation and appellate work. She has decades of trial and appellate experience. Stratton spent the first nine years of her legal career as a central Ohio trial lawyer. In 1988, she became the first woman elected judge of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Stratton was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court by Governor George Voinovich in 1996 and was elected by Ohio voters to three six-year terms, serving a total of 16 years.
