Vorys Condemns All Forms of Racism and Calls for Meaningful Progress Toward Racial Equality
At Vorys, we are reflecting on and deeply angered by the horrific public murder of George Floyd, as well as many other historical and ongoing acts of racially-motivated violence. We are feeling a wide range of emotions right now, but apathy is not one of them. To be clear, Vorys stands in solidarity with the Black community, and all people of color, in condemning all forms of racism and calling for meaningful progress toward racial equality.
We acknowledge that, as the Vorys firm, we have privilege, which allows us to wield a powerful voice in our communities. We will use that voice now more than ever. We are committed to not only seeking opportunities to effect positive change, but also to demonstrating unequivocally, through our words and actions, that Black lives matter to this firm. Our firm is proud to have signed on to this letter to the Columbus City Council in support of its resolution declaring racism a public health crisis, as well as supporting related statewide efforts. We are also proud to have signed on to the public statement issued by the Columbus Partnership of which the firm is a member.
While we know many are experiencing anguish right now, we must also acknowledge that recent events are impacting the Black community in a unique way. Our unwavering support goes out to our colleagues, clients, and their families who are dealing with very significant additional challenges and stresses right now as a result of these unspeakable tragedies.
While no one person or entity can bring about the systemic change necessary to eradicate racism in this country, we can all do something. We need to listen, learn, and do the work required, both in this moment and over time, to make meaningful progress. We encourage our individual attorneys and staff to participate in this critically important conversation and take action against racial injustice. We have important work ahead of us, and we are committed to moving toward a more inclusive community – together.
