Vorys Partner Quoted in Columbus Dispatch Story Titled “Court: Westerville Must Pay Landowner $1.3 Million”
Joseph Miller, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the litigation group, was quoted in a Columbus Dispatch story about a $1.3 million verdict recently upheld by the 10th District Court of Appeals. Miller and Vorys attorneys Bruce Ingram and John Kuhl represented the property owner in the case, which was over the City of Westerville’s use of eminent domain to take the property.
The story states:
“James Taylor tried and failed three years ago to block the city’s attempts to seize portions of his land at the corner of S. State Street and Heatherdown Drive. The city wanted the land for its South State Street Improvement Project, which widened sidewalks, buried power lines and added ornamental fencing along the street.
But in May 2013, a Franklin County jury awarded Taylor $1.3 million for his troubles: It gave him $182,000 for the land taken and $1.14 million for damages. Last week, the 10th District Court of Appeals affirmed that verdict.
‘This is an important decision for all property owners,’ said Joseph Miller, Taylor’s attorney. ‘Property-owner rights have been vindicated.’”
