Stevens Receives the Outstanding Recent Alumni Award from the Moritz of College of Law
Janay Stevens, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the labor and employment group, has received the “Outstanding Recent Alumni Award” from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. According to the college, each year the award is presented to a recent graduate whose accomplishments exemplify outstanding professionalism or loyalty to the college community.
Stevens, who graduated from the college in 2013, was selected because of her leadership and dedication to diversity and inclusion. According to the college, Stevens’ leadership and dedication is “evident through her participation in various committees and initiatives, such as serving as the chair of the Vorys Diversity Network.” In addition, Stevens founded and leads the Vorys Initiative for Business Empowerment (VIBE). VIBE is an innovative Vorys program aimed at making legal services more accessible to racial and ethnic minority owned business.
In her legal practice, Stevens counsels employers in both employment and traditional labor law matters. She regularly assists employers in complying with the Fair Labor Standards Act, the National Labor Relations Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and its amendments, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Stevens also has experience defending employers against employment lawsuits that include claims of wrongful discharge, discrimination, hostile work environment and harassment, wage and hour violations, breach of contract and violations of non-competition covenants.
