Treier Receives Akron Marathon’s 2024 Ambassador Award
Bret Treier, managing partner of the Akron office and a member of the corporate group, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Ambassador Award by the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation.
The award is given “annually to an individual who has made significant contributions and lasting impact on the sport of running.” Past ambassadors include running pioneers such as Kathrine Switzer, Bill Rogers, Frank Shorter and Joan Benoit Samuelson, and more recent Olympic and record-holding marathoners such as Deena Kastor, Meb Keflezighi, Kara Goucher, Des Linden and Keira D’Amato.
Treier was one of the Akron Marathon’s original organizers, helping design and oversee the marathon route during his 17 years as course co-chair, and also served as a founding board member and board chair for the Charitable Corporation. Although he has completed more than 60 marathons, Treier ran the Akron Marathon officially for the first time in 2022 (his race day duties as course chair prevented his previous participation). His running accomplishments include completing the Boston Marathon, a time-qualified event, 12 times.
Apart from his work with the Akron Marathon, Treier has also played a role in organizing many Akron-area races and events, including Ohio’s first Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.
Treier will receive the award on September 25, 2024 at the Akron Marathon’s VIP Party.
