Vorys Featured in Crain’s Cleveland Business story titled "Vorys Takes Innovative Approach to Artificial Intelligence with AIV Labor Platform"

AIV Labor, a first-of-its-kind, agentic GenAI product—specifically designed to quickly and effectively address questions regarding federal, state, and local employment laws—developed by Vorys, was highlighted in a story from Crain’s Cleveland Business.  The story, which featured quotes from Vorys Partner Chaz Billington, said the firm’s approach to AI is “innovative.”

The story states:

“Development of AIV Labor began at least a year ago and blossomed out of the company’s exploration of AI applications, said Chaz Billington, a partner in the firm’s labor and employment group and a ‘self-professed tech nerd.’

In recent months, some of Vorys’ clients have begun quietly working with this platform in their respective businesses.

Billington emphasized that it’s an entirely homebrewed and proprietary AI product, versus something like a tailored or reimagined use of an established AI platform such as ChatGPT.

Billington said the firm had been using some existing AI technology to support or streamline the process of, for example, collecting information about state-specific labor laws.

But what had been tested wasn’t yielding terribly inspiring results. And that’s when the firm became motivated to create something more useful.

‘Like many firms and I think many consumers in this area, we initially looked at a buy versus build dichotomy,’ Billington said. ‘But we built this internally from scratch.’"

The story also highlights how it is cutting-edge for a law firm to handle to develop AI technology in-house:

“Vorys is based in Columbus but has a significant presence in Northeast Ohio, where it ranks among the top-25 largest firms in the market.

Chris Schmitt, executive director of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, said that while many firms are toying with the use of AI in various ways, he’s not immediately aware of any other firms in the market building a platform at this time quite like Vorys is with AIV Labor—which is not to say some others may not be quietly working on development of something similar.”
