Vorys Joins Stanford Law School’s Innovative AI Research Program as a Founding Advisory Firm
Vorys announced today that the firm will be a founding advisor for the Legal Innovation through Frontier Technology Lab (liftlab), a new Stanford Law School program dedicated to advancing AI within the practice of law.
“We are honored to collaborate with liftlab, a unique initiative that combines Stanford’s academic excellence with a clear focus on real-world impact,” said Michael Martz, Vorys managing partner. “We’re constantly evaluating how new technologies can improve our firm's operations and enhance the way we serve our clients, but at times it’s hard to separate what’s promising from what’s practical. Working with liftab will provide our firm with a unique opportunity to develop tools that are tested against the realities of legal work and built with the profession’s long-term needs in mind.”
Comprised of faculty, researchers and technologists from Stanford’s computer science program and law school, liftlab is one of the premier centers for the evaluation and development of AI tools and solutions for the legal industry.
“Vorys was the first founding advisory firm of liftlab,” said Megan Ma, liftlab’s executive director. “The firm’s history of using technology to improve their services and commitment to leveraging AI align perfectly with our mission to advance the legal profession through cutting-edge research and practical applications.”
Vorys was interested in a collaboration with liftlab because of its leadership role in the adoption and development of AI into the practice of law. Just this year, Vorys launched AIV Labor, a proprietary agentic AI product specifically designed to quickly and effectively address questions regarding federal, state and local employment laws. As a founding advisory firm, Vorys will collaborate with liftlab on new research, the development of new AI tools, the evaluation of pricing models, and the creation and deployment of training and career-development tools.
The liftlab team will develop, investigate and evaluate AI in private practice and legal education. The research is designed to both reduce the cost and increase the quality of legal services in a sustainable and responsible way. To bridge the gap between theory and practice, liftlab’s work will extend beyond conceptualization and involve collaborating with law firms and building technologies that help explore the utility of AI-based solutions that bring efficiencies to law firm operations and practices.
