How Employers Should Address Speech in the Online World
Angela Gibson and Colleen Devanney, partners in the Vorys Cincinnati office, co-authored an article titled “How Employers Should Address Speech in the Online World” for the Cincinnati Business Courier.
The article states:
“What companies are becoming increasingly concerned about, however, is what employees are sharing online about their jobs and employers.
To be clear, past and present employees have every right to post online about their jobs, within reason. An employee can be critical about his or her work experience, so long as he or she is not publishing false statements or confidential information, for example.
Employers, therefore, must be careful to avoid engaging in actions that could be construed as trying to silence employees from lawfully speaking about their employment.”
