USPTO to Grant Further Relief for Certain Patent-Related Fees and Deadlines

As part of our dedication to helping our clients stay up-to-date on the ever-changing landscape as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve compiled the following highlights of changes to patent, trademark, and copyright operations around the world.  

Update Highlights

  • The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced on an official notice that it will grant further relief for certain patent-related fees and deadlines, on May 27, 2020.

    • For small and micro entities, filings that would have been deemed timely filed, if filed by June 1, 2020, will now be deemed timely filed if filed by July 1, 2020.

    • For large entities, after May 31, 2020, relief will be available to those who need it on a case-by-case basis.

  • The Canada IP Office (CIPO) has extended any deadlines falling between March 16 and June 12, 2020 to June 15, 2020, effective by May 26, 2020.
