Tell us about your pro bono experience.

Pro-bono work is very important to me as a professional and just as a person. I am on the firm pro-bono committee and help facilitate pro-bono programs amongst our attorneys. I have participated in numerous such programs throughout my time at White and Williams and now am primarily involved in the HAP program.

Why is pro bono service important to you?

Pro bono service is important to me because it puts our profession in perspective. Often times we are weighed down in the weeds of litigation or business and do not see how much we can help those around us. I like to help in other ways in my life too, but to the extent I can offer pro bono legal assistance, I think it is something I should do.

How did you select an organization to support? What would you want someone to know about this organization?

I selected the HAP program after seeing how many people in shelters are in need of basic legal assistance. Our work can involve anything from making a few phone calls to preparing an entire petition for HAP patrons, but I think the work goes a long way regardless.

What advice do you have for lawyers who want to get involved in pro bono service?

I would say try a few different things before you find what suits you best. If you are not feeling particularly useful in a specific program, don’t give up. Try again as there is one for everyone.
