In November 2019, the First Circuit Court of Appeals discussed in Haidak v. University of Massachusetts-Amherst the obligations of public colleges and universities under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution when conducting student disciplinary proceedings. More recently, in John Doe v. Trustees of Boston College, the Court discussed similar principles but in relation to student disciplinary proceedings in private university settings.
