Nancy Conrad to Serve as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association

White and Williams is honored to announce that Nancy Conrad, Managing Partner of the Lehigh Valley office and Chair of the Higher Education Practice Group, will serve as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) for the 2024-2025 term. She will be the seventh woman to serve as President, the second president to hail from Lehigh Valley, the third partner from White and Williams and our firm’s first woman Partner to serve in this role. Conrad recently completed her term as President of the Lehigh County Bar Association (2023-2024).

During her career and involvement with the PBA, Conrad served on a number of committees and sections. She started with the Women in the Profession Committee (WIP), then expanded to the Federal Practice Committee, the Labor & Employment Section, the Civil Litigation Section and others. In each of these committees and sections, she served in leadership roles leading to her appointment as Woman Governor and Chair of the DEI Team.

She also served as member of PBA boards including the Labor and Employment Law Section Executive Council, the Commission on Women in the Profession Executive Council, the Bylaws, Civil Litigation, Civil and Equal Rights, Large Law Firm, Law-Related Education, LGBTQ+ Rights, Minority Bar and Quality of Life/Balance committees.

Outside of the PBA, Nancy’s extensive resume continues with her commitment to four cornerstones: inclusion, professionalism, integrity, and wellness, which is displayed through her work as a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and a Hearing Committee Member for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in Disciplinary District II.

Conrad is among those recognized for her professionalism. In 2005, 2006 and 2010-2018, Nancy was selected in a survey of her peers as a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers. She was also selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2021, 2022 and 2024 in the field of Litigation - Labor and Employment.

In May 2021, Conrad received the PBA President’s Award for her leadership with the PBA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team in recognition of the diversity initiatives she advanced, the programs she presented, and the engagement she fostered among the bar on diversity related issues.

In 2022 and 2023, Conrad was named by Lehigh Valley Business on the Business Power List in Law, and is recognized among the region's power players, which includes the most significant, influential and respected leaders in their fields.

In addition, she has received countless accolades over her career recognizing her commitment to inclusion, such as the "Athena Award" from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2006, honoring women who strive toward the highest levels of professional accomplishment, excel in their field, have devotion to their community in a meaningful way and act as a leader to others.

In 2009, she received the "Take the Lead" Award from the Girl Scouts, which honors women whose professional and personal accomplishments exemplify the organization's mission of building strong young female leaders who have a surplus of courage, confidence and character, and hope to make the world a better place.

Conrad was also awarded the Anne X. Alpern Award in May 2019 during the PBA's Commission on Women in the Profession's 26th Annual Conference. The award is presented annually to Pennsylvania women in law who demonstrate excellence in the legal profession and make a significant professional impact in their field.

Nancy started her career path in education, teaching third and fourth grade and worked as a school counselor in a school district directly outside of Philadelphia before pursuing the legal field. During this time, as she gained critical hands-on experience in her school district by day, she also pursued her law degree by night, cementing her commitment to education and finding a work-life balance. Conrad’s dedication to inclusion, professionalism, integrity, and wellness take precedent in her career, acting as a foundational tool to help shape her decisions for the best possible outcome; something that is exemplified by her stellar work within the firm and the PBA in past years.

For more than 20 years, Conrad has represented businesses, educational institutions and non-profit organizations in all aspects of workplace disputes. She has defended all types of employment actions, including the defense of federal and state discrimination claims, wrongful discharge claims, whistleblower claims, defamation claims, employment contract matters and restrictive covenant cases. Conrad also has extensive experience in representing colleges, universities and schools in matters related to faculty, staff and students, understanding the unique challenges that exist on campus. She is recognized for her depth of experience in analyzing and problem-solving controversial matters.

Conrad earned her JD from the Temple University School of Law, cum laude; she earned an MEd from The Pennsylvania State University, summa cum laude; and a BA, Lycoming College, magna cum laude.
