New Article by Randy Maniloff Published by ABA Journal
White and Williams Partner, Randy Maniloff, was recently published by the ABA Journal for his article, “When judges turn to Christmas movies for help,” which discussed past cases that used unusually festive tactics for reaching a case verdict.
Throughout the article, Randy presents a number of cases where the Judge’s decision was aided by classic holiday movies, exploring the history linking U.S. legal proceedings and cinematography.
One of the cases he explores, Skala v. Edlich (2002), utilized the fictional case, the People of the State of New York v. Kris Kringle, which was featured in the movie Miracle on 34th Street, to create a precedent that was followed by the attorneys arguing the case in real life.
Randy continues exploring the connection between several classic holiday films and U.S. law, citing several case examples that reference iconic movies like Home Alone, A Christmas Story and It’s a Wonderful Life.
