White and Williams Adopts Thomas Edison Charter School in Wilmington
White and Williams LLP is pleased to announce the official “adoption” of Thomas Edison Charter School in Wilmington, Delaware. The two-year engagement kicked off on September 17, 2019 with the donation of $5,000 to provide new uniforms, laundry detergent and other supplies for the school uniform closet.
To celebrate the partnership, Thomas Edison's sixth, seventh and eighth grade students joined White and Williams representatives for a discussion on leadership and goal-setting, themes for the school's older students. On display were items from the school uniform closet provided by the firm. Ensuring students have access to clean clothes and extra uniforms helps reduce absenteeism, improves class engagement and helps students succeed. Throughout the school year, employees of the firm will also participate in career days, school supply drives and other activities with Thomas Edison's students.
“My goal as principal is to ensure all our students are provided with the tools, resources and support they need to receive the best education possible,” said Salome Thomas-EL, Principal of Thomas Edison Charter School. “We can’t thank White and Williams enough for their investment in our students’ education and well-being. We look forward to a successful partnership for the next several years.”
“We are very excited to officially kick-off the Thomas Edison adoption and give back to a local school that has made a positive difference in the lives of so many,” said John Balaguer, Wilmington Office Managing Partner. “We hope our donation can help students reach their fullest potential and be successful both inside and out of the classroom.”
The donation and partnership are part of the firm’s Adopt-A-School Initiative, which supports the local communities where White and Williams operates through educational investment. Thomas Edison is the second school adopted by White and Williams in Wilmington. The firm has also adopted elementary schools in the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia.
