White and Williams Preps NJ Leep Students for Debate Competition

11.13.17

White and Williams hosted a dozen high school students in its Newark, NJ office in connection with the firm's support of NJ Leep. Our lawyers assisted the students in preparing oral arguments for an upcoming debate competition. The program began with a lawyer led discussion about the law. Students were then partnered with lawyer-coaches, who provided feedback to the students on their debate presentations.

NJLEEP helps students graduate from high school, attend and graduate from competitive colleges, and begin careers. The College Bound Program serves first-generation and low-income students enrolled in grades 9-12 from more than 20 public, private, and charter schools across the greater Newark area. Most youth possess multiple risk factors to college matriculation and persistence. In Newark, college matriculation and success is the exception, not the norm. Approximately 25% of public school students in Newark earn a college degree. 100% of NJ LEEP program graduates have matriculated to college. 85% are currently enrolled or have graduated college.
