Ali Degan Reappointed as the Co-Chair of the ABA Litigation Section’s LGBT Law and Litigator Committee
The law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Ali Degan has been reappointed as the Co-Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Litigation Section’s LGBT Law and Litigator Committee. Ali will continue to serve as Co-Chair for the 2025-2026 term, effective September 1, 2025.
The LGBT Law and Litigator Committee offers programming, publications, and a forum to discuss legal developments affecting the LGBT community, including topics like same-sex marriage litigation, school bullying, and implicit bias issues in jury selection. The committee partners with groups across the ABA, supports policy statements for full equality, and provides networking opportunities for LGBT litigators and allies. Learn more on the ABA’s website.
Ali is a litigator who represents financial institutions and mortgage servicers in contested foreclosure actions and complex real estate disputes. He counsels clients on consumer claims involving federal and state statutes, including the FDCPA, RESPA, FCRA, and TILA. With a background in civil litigation spanning product liability and insurance defense in Louisiana, Ali now focuses his New York practice on high-stakes real property and creditors’ rights matters, regularly advocating for institutional clients in court.
In addition to his role as Co-Chair of the LGBT Law and Litigator Committee, Ali also co-chairs the ABA’s Mortgage & Foreclosure Subcommittee, serves as a Mentoring Circle Leader for New York as part of the Judicial Intern Opportunity Program, and was selected to participate in the ABA Litigation Section’s Young Lawyer Leadership Program from 2019 to 2021. Ali is also an active member of the New York State Bar Association and the Iranian American Bar Association.
