Veteran Immigration Partner Joins Hinshaw in Chicago
Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that William B. ("Bill") Schiller has joined the firm as a partner in the Labor & Employment group in Chicago. Formerly with Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd., Schiller represents individuals and institutions nationally, including universities, medical centers, and corporations, with a wide array of immigration law matters.
Schiller will join Hinshaw's immigration law team led by Hinshaw Partner Ian D. Wagreich and will also lead Hinshaw’s Higher Education Immigration team.
"I've worked with Bill for many years and am thrilled that he has joined our firm," Wagreich said. "As our individual, business and higher education clients face increasingly complex and evolving immigration policies, we are seeing a growing need for immigration attorneys with cutting-edge experience and skills. Bill is one of those lawyers, and has a national reputation, deep knowledge and strong record of success dealing with some of the most challenging immigration matters out there."
Schiller represents individuals and professionals, including scientists, university professors and doctoral students, as well as corporations, universities and medical centers nationwide, in matters before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the U.S. Department of Labor, and U.S. consular posts worldwide. In addition, he represents families and individuals in family-based immigration cases, as well as complex asylum matters.
According to Schiller, Hinshaw's national platform and geographic footprint, along with its broad base of legal service areas, will allow him to provide his clients with top-level service solutions for a wide range of legal needs.
"Hinshaw's national footprint and stellar team of lawyers is perfect for my clients," Schiller said. "Our team can take immigration cases to federal court, if necessary, when a decision is arbitrary or wrong. Most of our cases are life-changing, impacting the life trajectory of our clients and their families. With my focus on educational and medical institutions and highly-skilled professionals, I bring additional depth to the team's capabilities. I'm excited to work with Ian and the firm's talented lawyers and professional staff."
In addition to his law practice, Schiller is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University, where he teaches a senior-level course on international human rights and U.S. refugee law. He has written and spoken extensively on immigration law topics and issues. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and was among ten attorneys in the Chicago area selected for a Pro Bono Leadership Award by the Midwest Immigrant & Human Rights Center (now National Immigrant Justice Center) and the American Bar Association.
Prior to joining Hughes Socol, Schiller practiced at Davidson & Schiller. He received a B.A. in political science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and a LL.M. in international business law from King's College, University of London.
