Katie Anderson defends healthcare providers in medical negligence cases and advises them on a wide range of issues including legal compliance, regulatory matters, medical staff matters, risk management, investigations and audits, and employment matters. She also represents providers before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
Being named as a defendant in a medical negligence case is a stressful experience for a healthcare provider. Katie strives to provide her clients with an understanding of the litigation process from start to finish and develops effective defense strategies to tailored to each case.
In addition to defending malpractice claims, Katie acts as outside general counsel to hospitals and health systems. She provides guidance on policy development, billing issues, corporate governance, and day-to-day operations. Katie’s experience as in-house counsel at a community hospital gives her a practical perspective that shapes her approach. She focuses on providing workable and feasible solutions that do not overburden the organization.
Katie also assists healthcare facilities with behavioral health matters, including court proceedings under the Mental Health Code, privacy issues related to mental health records, and coordination with state agencies on placement issues for mental health patients and patients with developmental disabilities.
She also represents long-term care facilities in negligence actions and works with both hospitals and individual clinicians on peer review and medical staff issues.
