Biography
Mr. Durán-González is a seasoned litigator who has extensive experience in environmental, commercial, products liability and banking litigation. He represents local and United States companies in litigation involving contract, commercial, environmental and insurance laws, products liability and RICO. He has also represented tuna canneries and state-side companies before local courts and the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board in litigation concerning solid waste, NPDES permits and Hazardous Waste Regulations.
He joined the firm in June 1974 and before that he served as Deputy Budget Director for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Mr. Durán-González has participated in the successful defense of the following cases: action under the anti-tying provision of the BHCA against Banco Popular de Puerto Rico (48 F.2d 66 (1st Cir. 1995)); 516 U.S. 861, 116 S.Ct. 171 (Mem), 133 L.Ed.2d 112; shareholder's derivative suit against Popular, Inc. (Opinion and Order December 2003); PREMPRO litigation; Diet Drug litigation; breach of lease agreement action against Commercial Net Lease Realty (328 F.3d 20 (1st Cir. 2003)); RICO action against Solar Devices, Inc. (778 F.2d 71 (1st Cir. 1985); arbitration dispute (97 F.Supp.2d 197 (D.Puerto Rico 2000)); and numerous other civil and administrative actions in State and government agencies of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Mr. Durán-González is a member of the DRI, the national organization of all lawyers involved in the defense of civil litigation. He has publications on administrative law ("Prontuario de Derecho Administrativo", 4th ed. 2003); Durán on Summary Judgment, 3rd ed., and several other booklet publications on contract and procedural matters.
