Stinson Launches Survivor Protection Practice
Stinson LLP is proud to announce the creation of its Survivor Protection practice group. Stinson's bankruptcy team has represented survivor committees in 13 major Chapter 11 bankruptcies filed by the Catholic Church and others in California, Delaware, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania and Guam. Stinson attorneys have worked closely with survivors and their attorneys to achieve successful financial recoveries and secured major advances in child protection, all while keeping the focus where it belongs—on the voices of survivors.
This first-of-its-kind Survivor Protection practice group will focus on advocating for survivors to ensure that their rights are protected, their injuries are redressed, and their voices are conveyed with authority, potency, and maximum impact. The formation of this new practice includes the hiring of additional attorneys and the retooling of internal resources to create a dedicated team of more than 20 survivor protection attorneys.
"We are deeply proud of our past work to amplify survivor voices throughout the bankruptcy process. With our new hires and additional resources, we now have even greater bandwidth to bring meaningful closure to survivors," said Partner Ed Caldie, who co-chairs the firm's Survivor Protection practice group with Partner Robert Kugler.
Stinson's Survivor Protection team has resolved more Catholic Church bankruptcies than any other firm in the past 10 years and believes its results, whether measured by per-survivor recoveries, strategic innovations, or advances in child protection, have been unmatched.
"Our job is to consider everything from the survivors' perspective," Kugler said. "We will always remain true to the most important purpose of our work, which is delivering survivors what they deserve – a voice that is heard loudly and an outcome that is fair, deliberate, and efficient."
"We will always keep innovating, maximizing results," Caldie said. "As a Midwestern-anchored firm with a nationwide network, we offer exceptional value." Kugler, who also serves on Stinson's Board and its Executive Committee, summed up "this group of highly committed and talented attorneys has the full support of the firm's national network and the backing of the firm's full resources with over 450 attorneys and 13 offices."
