Overview
Jake is an associate in the environmental group. He practices in the Washington, D.C. and Cincinnati offices. His practice aids clients in a wide variety of environmental law related issues including permitting and compliance, state, federal and administrative enforcement and litigation, and transactional due diligence.
Notable experience includes:
- Defending the appeal of a client’s NPDES permit to the Ohio Environmental Review Appeals Commission (ERAC);
- Answering client questions on permitting and regulatory requirements under RCRA, CERCLA, EPCRA, TSCA and CWA;
- Guiding clients through the process of responding to accidental spills and releases including local, state and federal reporting, follow-up investigations, and responding to regulator enforcement;
- Advising clients on TSCA Form U and EPCRA TRI reporting submissions;
- Supporting large litigation teams in defense of complex environmental litigation in both state and federal court including legal research, preparation of deposition outlines, and drafting of pleadings and dispositive briefs;
- Conducting environmental due diligence in various Real Estate and Corporate transactions, including managing Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, reviewing reports, drafting client-friendly contract provisions and overseeing the completion of post-closing environmental work; and
- Assisting clients in responding to TSCA Section 11 and CERCLA Section 104(e) Information Requests.
In addition to his environmental work for Vorys clients, Jake has represented several clients pro bono through the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati in eviction and criminal expungement matters. He has also volunteered with the Vorys Tutors program at a local elementary school working with young students to improve their reading skills.
Jake received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he was a senior staff editor for the Kentucky Law Journal and graduated as the class Valedictorian. He received his B.A. magna cum laude in history and secondary education from the University of Kentucky.
