2013 Real Property Law Institute

Vorys partner Shelia Nolan Gartland spoke at the 2013 Real Property Law Institute presented by the Columbus Bar Association on Friday, February 8, 2013. The topic of her presentation was Oil and Gas/Shale Issues.

Ms. Gartland addressed the following points:

• Overview of the Marcellus and Utica shale, horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing
• Discussion of mineral rights ownership issues, including Dormant Minerals Act, Marketable Title Act, and the importance of good title work
• Mineral rights abstracting
• Examination of oil and gas leasing for public and private landowners
