Ford Quoted in Houston Business Journal Story Titled “How the Hobby Lobby Verdict Affects your Office”

Jackie Ford, a partner in the Vorys Houston office and a member of the labor and employment group, was quoted throughout a Houston Business Journal story about recent statement issued by the Department of Labor.  According to the story, the statement outlined how closely held private companies will have to inform employees of changes in their health care plans. This would apply if the employer chose not to offer specific contraceptives as a part of a plan.

The story states:

“Jackie Ford, partner at the Houston office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, said the issue now is for companies that want to retroactively change their plans after the Hobby Lobby verdict. There could be some issues for those that do meet the classifications of the Hobby Lobby verdict and want to change health care coverage, Ford said.

‘We don’t have sufficient regulatory guidances as to who is going to pay for those services,’ she told the Houston Business Journal.

She added that small businesses and large businesses alike have approached her firm asking how to handle this controversial topic. Some were looking to see if there was something in the Hobby Lobby verdict that could save them money, while others want to find the right way to reassure their employees that nothing will change under the current plans offered.”
