Havens Profiled in Columbus Business First Story Titled “Jolie Havens: Young, Female and Making Law Firm History at Vorys”
Jolie Havens, the leader of the firm’s health care group, was profiled in a Columbus Business First Q&A. The questions focused on her appointment as group chair and her health care regulatory practice.
The Q&A states:
“How and why did you pick health care as your field of expertise?
‘When I came to the firm in 2000, the first large project I worked on was a health care project. It was a very dynamic and fast-moving project — you had all these different pieces you had to fit together and, honestly, I just fell in love with it. It’s an industry and an area of the law like no other. It’s on the lips of economists and politicians, and it’s being discussed at kitchen tables throughout the country. My practice is typically geared towards hospitals, and it’s really how they keep their doors open and how they get paid.’
You’re the youngest main practice leader in firm history and only the third female main practice group leader. Talk a little about what it means to you?
‘Well, it certainly took some getting used to. I think one of the hardest things we do as women is when we’re successful, we say things like, ‘Oh, I’m really lucky,’ or ‘I’m fortunate.’ And, I’ve been trying really hard to say to myself, ‘You know what, you worked hard. And it’s OK to work hard and enjoy that that hard work has been recognized.’ I’m proud to have done that, with children, and not feeling like I have sacrificed any more than absolutely necessary the other facets of my life.’”
