Litigators Lean on Automated Doc Review Technology to Aid Discovery
Julie Brown, Vorys’ litigation technology manager, and Douglas Matthews, a partner in the firm’s litigation group, were featured in a Columbus Business First story regarding the firm’s advances in its use of electronic discovery. Vorys attorneys and staff are able to teach litigation software to scour documents and more accurately and efficiently return the most applicable ones.
The story states: “The newest generation of technology tackles the volume by doing much more than plucking out documents with keywords. With some coaching by an attorney, the software can learn what’s relevant to a case and rank documents accordingly. ‘With the latent semantic indexing, it looks at the relationship of all the words within a document. An example is if you searched for ‘Julie Brown,’ you would probably get documents that have ‘litigation techonology’ in them but don’t have my name,’ [Brown] said.”
