Russell Focus of Columbus Business First Story Titled "OSU picks Vorys Lawyer to Teach Oil and Gas Course"

Gregory Russell, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and chair of the firm’s energy group, will teach the first The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law course on oil and law.  This news was the focus of a Columbus Business First story.  According to the story, Russell was approached by the university earlier this year about leading the course. The course will study the law governing oil and gas ownership and development.  It also will include a study of related property law principles, the provisions commonly found or implied in an oil and gas lease, and an introduction to the regulatory framework and related concepts that govern the operations of an oil and gas producer. 

The story states:

"'I felt extremely privileged that they would consider me,' Russell told me. 'It was really out of the blue. But I’m very interested in doing it. I think there is a tremendous need, frankly, for knowledgeable oil and gas lawyers in most areas outside of traditional producing areas like Texas.'

Russell graduated from Harvard Law School in 1992 having never taken an oil and gas course (it wasn’t offered). He lucked into the field shortly after he joined Vorys as an associate out of law school when a partner asked him to help out when Columbia Gas Transmission filed for bankruptcy. Vorys represented a lot of oil and gas producers that were using the pipeline.

He’s focused on oil and gas work ever since, and has done related presentations at OSU."
