Vorys, Cobb Featured in Columbus Business First Story Titled “Staying Open Through Coronavirus? Here's What Lawyers Want You to Know”
Webb Vorys and Tiffany Cobb, partners in the Vorys Columbus office, were quoted in a Columbus Business First Story titled “Staying Open Through Coronavirus? Here's What Lawyers Want You to Know.” The story highlighted Vorys’ weekly webinars on the business implications related to the COVID-19 pandemic and featured quotes from both partners’ sections of the firm's April 2, 2020 webinar (more info on that webinar here).
The Columbus Business First story states:
“Companies should have a written explanation for why they're essential, citing the order specifically, and written plans for how they will maintain cleanliness and social distancing if people are on work sites. Those plans need to be readily available and able to be adapted if local law enforcement says so. Employees need to be aware of these as well.
"Keep in mind the non-legal issues too," Vorys said. "How will staying open affect the reputation of your business? Is it the right thing to do? Can you justify your positions?"
Attorneys on the webinar also highlighted portions of the recently passed federal CARES Act.
The legislation includes a wide-ranging set of financial tools will extend the ability to obtain SBA 7(a) loans, and it's likely more banks will be providing these kinds of loans, said Vorys Partner Tiffany Strelow Cobb. A payroll protection program with a loan forgiveness component and economic injury disaster loans are other pieces of the act companies should continue to explore.”
