Vorys Partner Quoted in Cincinnati Enquirer Story on Medicaid Billing False Claims Act Case

Glenn Whitaker, a partner in the Vorys Cincinnati office and member of the litigation group, was quoted in a Cincinnati Enquirer story titled “U.S. accuses Chemed subsidiaries of bilking Medicare.” The story was about a lawsuit filed by the federal government claiming that nation’s largest for-profit hospice care chain submitted tens of millions of dollars in false Medicare claims.

The story states:

“Cases involving Medicare or Medicaid fraud typically are complex, and cases take a long time to build especially if multiple jurisdictions are involved, said Glenn Whitaker, a Cincinnati attorney who has defended False Claims Act cases. Whitaker, a partner with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, also said cases are far from ‘open and shut matters’ because they will involve interpretations of medical record, patient testimony and judgments about what type of care was appropriate.

But one thing that is certain, ‘it will be expensive to defend,’ Whitaker said.”
