Online Notaries Are Coming (And Why You Should Care)
Lisa Babish Forbes, a partner in the litigation group in the Vorys Cleveland office, authored an article in the September/October 2018 issue of the Probate Law Journal of Ohio titled, "Online Notaries Are Coming (And Why You Should Care)."
The articles states:
"Electronic signatures have enjoyed the same legal effect, validity, and enforceability as any wet-ink signature on paper since 2000. But, until recently, it has not been possible to create a valid power of attorney or transfer real estate without a piece of paper signed by hand by a notary public affirming that the person effecting the transaction physically appeared before the notary. That is about to change."
