Jack Shadid focuses his practice primarily on creditors' rights, bankruptcy, and foreclosure matters. He represents a wide range of creditors—including commercial landlords, mortgage lenders, real estate developers, and construction companies—in both state and federal proceedings. Jack also works with creditors seeking to recover money they are owed, using tools like post-judgment enforcement actions, Rule 2004 examinations, contested plan confirmation hearings, and motions for recovery of post-petition rent. Jack regularly handles sophisticated disputes in real estate finance, business insolvency, and secured transactions.
Jack’s work as a litigator also encompasses matters involving employee benefit plans. He has represented creditors pursuing health and welfare benefit claims against healthcare administration companies, drawing on his experience with ERISA and state insurance law. Before entering private practice, Jack served as a staffer to the Illinois Senate President, advising lawmakers on policy related to defined benefit pension systems, defined contribution retirement plans, and government-sponsored health insurance programs. His knowledge in this area also draws upon hundreds of hours analyzing health insurance claims, reviewing appeals, and interpreting related billing and correspondence.
In addition to his work on creditor enforcement and healthcare benefit litigation, Jack has an active real estate practice. He frequently represents mortgage lenders and title insurance companies dealing with city code violations and title disputes, including actions to quiet title prior to foreclosures and other real estate-related litigation. His work at the intersection of bankruptcy, insurance, and property law allows him to guide clients dealing with high-stakes matters that span multiple areas.
